Tauchen to Chair Assembly Ag Committee
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/12/2018

A long-time member of the Wisconsin Assembly Agriculture Committee will take over as chair of that panel during the next legislative session. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos announced on Tuesday that Rep. Gary Tauchen will assume responsibilities of the committee's leadership on January 7. He replaces Rep. Lee Nerison from Westby, who did not seek re-election.

The Bonduel Republican was first elected to the legislature in 2007 and has served on the ag committee since 2011. Gary, along with his three brothers, milks almost 900 cows on their dairy farm in Shawano County. He is also a longtime member of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau and has served on a long list of advisory committees on the local, state and national levels representing agriculture. And he is involved in the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium, the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin and the Dairy Business Association.

"I am honored to be named the next chairman of the Agriculture Committee," Tauchen said. "There are serious issues facing the farming community and we must work together to encourage sensible reforms that help provide stability and opportunity to local farmers and agribusiness."

Speaker Voss also named Rep. Joel Kitchens as chair of the Environment Committee; Rep. Mike Kuglitsch was chosen as the leader of the Energy & Utilities Committee; and Rep. Nancy VanderMeer will chair of the Rural Development Committee.

The vice chairs and other Republican members of the committees will be named later this month.
