Brossard, Marker Earn WFBF's Top YFA Awards
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/05/2016

A Dodge County farm couple has been selected as the winners of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau's Young Farmer and Agriculturist Achievement Award. Andrea Brossard and Mason Rens were honored during the organization's annual meeting in Wisconsin Dells on Sunday.

Brossard is a third-generation dairy producer at her family's farm in Beaver Dam, where they milk 260 cows, raises 70-80 steers annually and grow 650 acres of crops. She also serves as secretary and treasurer for the Dodge County Farm Bureau and is the District 2 Representative on the WFBF Promotion and Education Committee. Her husband, Rens, is a water well driller for Municipal Well and Pump.

This year's winner of the Excellence in Agriculture Award is Teresa Marker of Spooner. That program recognizes members between the ages of 18 and 35 who are actively engaged in agriculture, but derives the majority of their income from an off-farm agricultural career. Marker is a livestock nutritionist for Crystal Creek Natural, LLC. A native of Elk Mound, she serves on the Barron County Farm Bureau board of directors and was recently elected the Ag in the Classroom chair. Marker has served on the state YFA committee and was the committee chair in 2013.

And the 2016 champion of the Farm Bureau Discussion Meet contest is Kristi Fiedler from Cecil. She is the associate vice president of U.S. Technical Services for Genex. Fiedler served on the state YFA committee from 2013 to 2015 with her husband, Brian.

Meanwhile, the WFBF also held its Collegiate Discussion Meet over the weekend. Sally Albers, an agricultural education major and biology education minor at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, was the winner of that competition. She grew up on her family's livestock and crop farm in the Sauk Prairie area and served as the Wisconsin FFA President from 2015-16.

All award winners will compete in their respective areas during the American Farm Bureau's annual meeting early next year in Phoenix, Arizona.
