Wisconsin Counties Designated Disaster Areas
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/08/2016

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 10 counties in Wisconsin as primary natural disaster areas due to damage and losses caused by frost and freezing temperatures that occurred from May 13-18. Those counties are Chippewa, Jefferson, St. Croix, Columbia, Pierce, Sauk, Eau Claire, Polk, Trempealeau and Jackson.

Farmers in those areas also qualify for natural disaster assistance because their counties are contiguous. They include Adams, Dodge, Marquette, Taylor, Barron, Dunn, Monroe, Vernon, Buffalo, Green Lake, Pepin, Walworth, Burnett, Iowa, Richland, Waukesha, Clark, Juneau, Rock, Wood, Dane, La Crosse and Rusk Counties.

All counties in the designation can qualify for low interest emergency loans from Farm Service Agency, provided eligibility requirements are met. Farmers in eligible counties have eight months from the date of the declaration to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses. FSA will consider each loan application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.
