USDA to Survey Wisconsin Feedlot Owners
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/10/2021
The USDA's National Animal Health Monitoring System will soon be contacting animal feeding operations to gather information for its feedlot study. Beginning March 1, the agency will be reaching out to feedlot owners in Wisconsin about their animal health and
welfare management practices. This year's survey will also question producers about the impacts of COVID-19.
"Animal health is an ever increasing management challenge many feedlots face today," said State Agriculture Statistician Greg Bussler. "By completing the survey, Wisconsin feedlot operators will help determine national management trends in animal health care
and the best practices to ensure proper animal health."
The bureau will contact nearly 5,200 feedlots nationwide between March through August 2021, including 181 such farms in Wisconsin. Feedlots will receive a brief survey in the mail to complete online or with one of our interviewers over the phone. To protect
the health and safety of producers, partners, and employees, there will be not in-person interviews on the owners' properties.
All information acquired for the study will be used for statistical purposes only and will be treated confidential. The results of the survey will be posted later this year.
