Wisconsin Ethanol Co-Product Exports Nearly Doubled

The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance announced that of the record $1.5 billion of agriculture exports from Wisconsin, dried distillers grain--a co-product of the ethanol production process--has seen
a 93 percent increase through the first nine months of 2008. Citing Thursday's announcement from the Governor's office about the value of farm products sold abroad, exports of DDGs increased from $19.2
million in 2007 to $25 million in 2008.
"Growing international acceptance of DDGs as great livestock feed continues to drive our export sales," said WBIA Director Joshua Morby. "Distillers grains are highly sought after as a high protein livestock
feed."
Morby says the ethanol industry has certainly taken its fair share of hits in the past few weeks, but went on to say that it's nice to receive a bit of recognition, that even during these trying economic times the
industry is still growing and aiding the economy.
"Thanks to the support of Wisconsin leaders like Governor Doyle, Wisconsin's Bio Industry is positioned to be a global powerhouse in renewable fuel and its co-products," he said.
The Wisconsin Bio Industry Alliance is made up of a group of businesses, environmental groups, and statewide and local organizations that have come together to build both public and legislative awareness of
the Bio Industry in Wisconsin.
