State Pork Producers Donate to Food Banks
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/15/2017

Leaders from the Wisconsin Pork Association will be spending the next two weeks distributing over 2,500 pounds of pork to families in need this holiday season. WPA board members began distributing pork loin roasts to food banks around the state earlier this week, which was donated by the association.

"Wisconsin's pig farmers, and pig farmers throughout the nation, realize the importance of being good neighbors and giving back to our communities," said WPA President Jim Magolski. "This donation is just one way we can show we care about the people in our communities and improving the quality of life for those in need, especially during the holiday season."

The meat arrived at Second Harvest of Southern Wisconsin on Tuesday, where about 1,600 pounds will be distributed through its mobile food pantry program. The remainder will go to various food pantries throughout Wisconsin.

Last year, the organization donated ham and other pork products as a way to show its appreciation to others. Now in its second year, the WPA hopes the event will become an annual tradition.
