Winners Named in 2014 WCGA Corn Yield Contest
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/22/2014

Organizers of this year's state corn grower contest say participants had recorded impressive yields in a variety of locations, despite the cool growing season and a wet fall harvest. Tom Manke of Arlington was the winner of this year's competition held by the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association with nearly 284 bushel per-acre yield. He registered through the Columbia County corn grower division. Jeff Miller from Pickett, with the Fond du Lac County division, was the runner-up. He registered an impressive 281 bushels per acre.

Other division winners included Cal Dalton, Endeavor, with 235 bushels per acre in the Juneau/Adams/Marquette grower group. And Arndt Farms, Janesville, took first place in the state-wide/other division with 279 bushels per acre.

Now in its sixth year, the program awards certificates and cash prizes to the top three yield winners in four divisions. All yields were checked by certified crop consultants and participants were allowed one entry for every WCGA membership they held.

Divisional contests were held in the three recognized regional corn grower groups, including Columbia County Corn Growers, JAM (Juneau/Adams/Marquette) Corn Growers and Dodge/Fond du Lac County Corn Growers. All other entrants were place in a fourth statewide division.

Entry in the state corn yield contest is free, but was limited to current members of the WCGA. Yields were verified at harvest by either a county agent or a professional agricultural consultant and confirmed by using either a weigh wagon or truck scale.
