Scholarship Offered for Law Students Aiming to Work with Co-ops
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/27/2017
College students who are planning to study law or pre-law with the intention of working on legal issues relating to cooperatives can now apply for a special scholarship program.
Offered by the Federated Youth Foundation, Inc., the $2,000 Charles Van Sickle Scholarship will be awarded to a pre-law or law student who plans to specialize in cooperative law.
A legendary lobbyist and legal counsel for Wisconsin cooperatives who was instrumental in a landmark revision of the state's co-op statuses, Van Slick died five years ago at the age of 92. He spent a half-century with the Madison law firm of Wheeler, Van
Sickle and Anderson.
"We continue to see a demand for highly skilled attorneys with knowledge of cooperatively-owned businesses and their unique needs," says FYF Director Ethan Giebel. "The Van Sickle Endowment is an extraordinary way to assist students interested in
pursuing degrees in cooperative law and honoring the contributions and legacy of Charles Van Sickle."
To be eligible, law or pre-law students must be Wisconsin residents who intend to specialize in co-op law and have earned a minimum grad point average of 3.5.
For more information or to apply for the scholarship, call 608-258-4408. Applications are due April 1 for the spring semester.
