Fond du Lac County Wind Farm Begins Generating Power
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/16/2008

Wisconsin Power & Light Co. has announced that its Cedar Ridge wind farm in Fond du Lac County has begun generating electricity. The operation has 41 turbines that can generate up to 68 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 17,000 homes. The wind farm is spread over more than 12 square miles in the towns of Eden and Empire.

WPL is a subsidiary of Madison-based Alliant Energy Corp. Alliant is planning to add 400 megawatts of wind power across Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota by the end of 2010. At that time, wind energy will comprise nearly 850 megawatts, or eight percent of the utility's energy mix, the company said.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the project is the third utility wind farm in Wisconsin to begin generating power this year. Others in Fond du Lac and nearby Dodge counties are owned by Invenergy of Chicago and We Energies of Milwaukee.

Including all three projects, Wisconsin is generating five times as much wind power as it did at the beginning of the year.
