November All-Milk Price Shows Improvement

Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $18.70 per hundredweight for their milk in November. According to the latest USDA Agricultural Prices report, that was $1.70 higher than last month's price and 50-cents more than the same time last year.

The U.S. milk price for November was $17.60 per cwt, $1.10 lower than Wisconsin's price, but $1.00 higher than the previous month. Minnesota and Wisconsin had the largest price increases of the 23 major milk producing states--each rising $1.70 from the month before.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.65 per pound on December 29, while barrels were $1.55 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.26 per pound.

For the week ending December 24, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.78 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.70 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $2.11 per pound.
