FSA Offering Youth Loans for Agricultural Projects
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/24/2014

Wisconsin students and teachers are being reminded that the USDA Farm Service Agency offers low-interest youth loans and business planning assistance to help kids start or expand an agricultural business as part of an FFA, 4-H, or business project.

State FSA Director Brad Pfaff says his agency provides business planning assistance and a loan of up to $5,000 to eligible kids 10 to 20 years old to help start an income-producing project. The loan is repaid when the project produces income, and currently carries an interest rate of three percent.

"This program not only allows Wisconsin kids and young adults to start an agriculturally-related small business, but more importantly, learn valuable life lessons such as responsibility, respect, resourcefulness, animal caretaking or horticulture, and sensible money management," said Pfaff.

Past projects have included raising dairy heifers, bees, fruit, vegetables, goat milk, sheep, eggs, hogs, cattle, corn, soybeans, and hay.
