Wisconsin Jaycees Announce 2010 OYF Finalists
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/31/2009

Five couples will compete to become the winner of the 2010 Wisconsin Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer Award next month in Manitowoc County. Organizers say a special awards weekend is being planned for January 22-23 in Mishicot, where candidates will be interviewed, tested and evaluated by a panel of judges.

Event planners say an awards banquet will be held Saturday night at the Fox Hills Resort, with a social hour beginning at 6:00 p.m. Past OYF participants will also have a reception the same evening to celebrate the 57th year of OYF in Wisconsin. And a 'Speak up for Agriculture' award winner will be announced.

The group will also spend part of the weekend touring area agribusinesses and other local sites of interest.

This year's nominees for the award include Ryan and Michelle Keller, Richland Center; Peter and Susie Arnold, Edgar; Brian and Dena Bender, Reedsburg; Jamie and Amy Larson; Evansville; and Heather and Jay Jauquet, Pulaski.

Winners are selected based on progress in their agricultural career, soil and water conservation and contributions to community, state and nation.

Meanwhile, last year's state winners, Dennis and Donna Bergsbaken of Bonduel, will represent Wisconsin at the National OYF Awards Congress from February 11-14 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Wisconsin OYF program was developed in 1954 to recognize the younger generation of successful agriculturists in the state.
