East Central/Select Sires Celebrates 75 Years of Business
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/08/2016

The Waupun-based East Central/Select Sires has reached a big milestone. The artificial insemination cooperative is celebrating 75 years of business this year.

The company began in the early 1940s when four county agents and various breeders began efforts to create what was then called East Central Breeders Association Cooperative. In the early days of A.I., inseminators had to be veterinarians, but soon lay technicians were authorized to take care of breeding cattle for local dairy farmers. That led to an opportunity for the company to offer on-the-farm servicing.

During the late 80s, most of the bulls at East Central were moved to Ohio as part of a restructuring effort of Select Sires.

Last year, East Central/Select Sires recorded 348,000 A.I. services in their southern-Wisconsin territory, which covers 28 counties.

The company says construction is underway to add warehouse and office space to their existing facilities in Waupun.
