Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/09/2010

Eighteen teams from across the state participated in the annual Livestock Quiz Bowl contest, held recently at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Animal Sciences Building.

This year's winning senior and junior teams, which will represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Quiz Bowl contest in Omaha in September, were both from Marathon County. Sr. Team members include Aaron Zimmerman, Abby Thunder, Theresa Bergs, David Bergs and coached by Jon and Joann Brubacher and Mark Zimmerman.

Grant County was named runner-up. Those students include Tyler Bode, Shea Esser, Amanda Patterson, Brian Patterson and coached by Alicia Prill-Adams and Dennis Patterson. Third place was Polk County.

Meanwhile, the Marathon County Jr. Team consisted of Ashley Zimmerman, Nathon Uttecht, Jake Thunder, Katelyn Zimmerman. Polk County placed second, with another Marathon County team in third.

Livestock Bowl is a quiz competition where all the questions are about beef, sheep, swine and meat goat topics and students use a buzzer in order to answer the questions. Teams compete in a double elimination format by giving oral answers to questions posed by a Judge. Each match has both an individual and toss-up question round. A group discussion round is included in the senior division to simulate the national competition.
