Wisconsin cherry board seeks nomination
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/04/2024

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) is seeking nominations for two seats on the Wisconsin Cherry Board, a crucial governing body for the state's cherry industry. This board plays a vital role in supporting and promoting Wisconsin-grown cherries through research, education, and promotional initiatives. Funding for these efforts comes from an annual assessment of approximately $55,000 collected from cherry growers within the state.

Eligible cherry growers can submit nominations for the open positions by March 29th, 2024. The nomination process requires completed forms to be signed, notarized, and accompanied by signatures from at least five other eligible growers, aside from the nominee themselves. DATCP will mail nomination forms to eligible individuals, but growers who haven't received one by March 10th can reach out to the department for a copy or who have other questions about the nomination process, should email DATCPMarketOrders@wisconsin.gov.

Following the nomination period, DATCP will conduct the Wisconsin Cherry Board election between May 10th and June 15th, 2024. The two elected board members will serve three-year terms, beginning on July 1st, 2024, and concluding on June 30th, 2027. This nomination and election process ensures the ongoing representation of Wisconsin cherry growers in shaping the future and success of the industry.
