Building Commission Okays New UW-Madison Meat Science Lab
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/11/2016

The Wisconsin Building Commission has approved several key projects around the state this week, including the design and construction of the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Meat Science and Muscle Biology Laboratory. The $45.7 million project will consist of a 67,000 square-foot building for the school's Meat Science program.

The new building will be located between Observatory Drive and Linden Drive on the site currently occupied by the Seed Building. That structure is set to be demolished as part of the project.

The new two-story facility will house a meat laboratory, lecture suite, biosafety lab and faculty offices.

Wisconsin's meat industry contributes $12 billion to the state's economy, providing 88,000 rural and urban jobs and pays $450 million in state and local taxes.

For nearly 70 years, UW-Madison's Meat Science program has conducted research and helped improved meat quality and food safety.
