Equity Livestock Awards Scholarship Money to Students

The Baraboo-based Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association has announced the names of this year's college scholarship recipients. The co-op is offering ten $1,000 scholarships for students attending a college or university, and two $750 technical education scholarships.

The scholarships are funded by Equity and distributed through Cooperative Network's Federated Youth Foundation. To be eligible, students or their parents are patron members of Equity Livestock. Applicants must have completed at least two semesters at a post secondary college, university or technical school, as well as maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.

Winning $1,000 scholarship recipients include:

** Austin Wenck, East Troy, studying food animal medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine.

** Emily Schwanke, Waupun, studying animal science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

** Vanessa Roberts, Whitelaw, studying animal science at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

** Brooke Breitrick, Bowler, studying juman biology at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

** Katelyn Zimmerman, Spencer, studying agriculture & life sciences comunication at Iowa State University.

** Abigail Solum, Rice Lake, studying food science & technology at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

** Angela Klinkner, Cashton, studying music education at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

** Margaret Tessendorf, Kent, Illinois, studying animal science at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

** Austin Schyvinck, Reedsburg, studying kinesiology/exercise movement at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

** Rachel Hovey, Mondovi, studying elementary education at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

Winning $750 technical college scholarship recipients include:

** Colleen Toberman, Brodhead, studying agribusiness science & technology at Blackhawk Technical College.

** Brock Irwin, Belvidere, Illinois, studying dairy science at Kaskaskia College.

Applicants were judged on their scholastic achievement, extra curricular activities, leadership abilities, academic and personal goals, and an essay summarizing educational goals and future career plans.
