Mattek Elected as WPVGA Board President

The Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association's board of directors will have a new president for the coming year. Josh Mattek of J.W. Mattek & Sons, Inc. in Deerbrook was elected by his fellow directors during the group's annual meeting in Stevens Point last week. He replaces outgoing board leader Eric Schroeder of Antigo.

Gary Wysocki of Wysocki Produce Farm of Bancroft is the new vice president. Rod Gumz, Endeavor, was chosen as secretary. And Wes Meddaugh from Hancock was re-elected treasurer.

Meanwhile, Nick Somers of Plover River Farms near Stevens Point was inducted into the Wisconsin Potato & Vegetable Growers Association Hall of Fame. Sally Suprise of Ansay & Associates, Appleton, earned the Associate Division Business Person of the Year Award. Paul Cieslewicz, owner of Sand County Equipment in Bancroft, was named the Volunteer of the Year.

This year's Young Grower of the Year Award was presented to Chad Malek of Specialty Potatoes & Produce in Rosholt. And the WPVGA Researcher of the Year Award went to University of Wisconsin Geneticist Shelley Jansky.

The Agri-Communicator Award for excellence in communication and dedicated service in presenting a positive message about the agricultural industry was presented to Andy Wallendal, owner and consultant for Wallendal Supply, Inc. near Grand Marsh.
