We now have a more accurate picture of how Wisconsin deer hunters did during the nine-day gun deer season in 2016.

The Department of Natural Resources says 202,338 deer were bagged last year, which is up substantially more than the 2015 hunting totals.

The agency's preliminary count was 196,785 deer when the season closed in late November.

Retail outlets sold nearly 598,800 gun deer licenses last season, compared to 612,000 the previous year.
