UW-Madison's AWA, AGR Hosting Rally to Fight Hunger
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/16/2017

Two student groups at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will be partnering with Kids Against Hunger to package about 50,000 meals for hungry children around the world. The Association of Women in Agriculture and Alpha Gamma Rho-Iota will be putting the meals together on February 18.

Organizers say nearly 120 students from the agriculture community at UW-Madison are expected to volunteer their time.

Kids Against Hunger aims to eradicate hunger and partners with community groups allowing volunteers to package food bags. Each bag includes a highly nutritious, vitamin-fortified soy-rice meal that only needs boiling water to prepare.

"Throughout my efforts organizing and volunteering for the Rally to Fight Hunger, I have come to realize how tiny me and my problems are when 1 in 8 people worldwide don't get enough food to eat," said AWA Service Coordinator McKenzie Rowley.

Last year, AWA packaged almost 30,000 meals that were distributed to children in the U.S. and worldwide as part of the project.
