Giebel Takes Top Honors in AFBF's Collegiate Discussion Meet
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 02/17/2014

An agriculture education student from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville was selected as the winner of the 2014 national Collegiate Discussion Meet Contest held in conjunction with the American Farm Bureau's recent Young Farmer & Rancher Leadership Conference. Ethan Giebel received a $2,500 scholarship for his efforts.

The Mauston native and former Wisconsin FFA President won the same contest at the state level last December. He competed against 52 other collegiate Farm Bureau members from 36 states at the AFBF Collegiate Discussion Meet.

The Collegiate Discussion Meet is an activity designed to help members analyze agricultural issues and decide on solutions that best meet their needs. The competition is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each committee member.

Ethan is a junior at UW-Platteville. He works on his parent's 350-acre farm, where they raise about 400 Holstein dairy steers along with corn and alfalfa.

He is a member of the Juneau County Farm Bureau and a lifetime Mauston FFA Alumni member.
