Wisconsin webinar - navigate student loan debt
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/27/2024

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP), in collaboration with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) and Savi, has announced a forthcoming webinar aimed at assisting individuals burdened by student loan debt.

Scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, this informative session will delve into various federal student loan repayment options and forgiveness programs, including an upcoming one-time payment count adjustment by the U.S. Department of Education.

DFI Secretary Cheryll Olson-Collins explained that borrowers seeking eligibility for the U.S. Department of Education's one-time payment count adjustment must possess Federal Direct Loans or Federal Family Education Loans (FFEL) held by the Department of Education. She emphasized the importance for those with commercially managed FFELs, Parent PLUS loans, Perkins loans, or Health Education Assistance Loans (HEAL) to apply for a Direct Consolidation Loan by April 30, 2024, to maximize the benefits of this adjustment.

DATCP Secretary Randy Romanski emphasized that borrowers shouldn't incur fees for consolidating loans, receiving loan cancellation, or reducing monthly payments. He underscored the availability of these services free of charge through the U.S. Department of Education's website at https://studentaid.gov/, inviting borrowers with inquiries to participate in the upcoming webinar to explore the array of resources accessible to them at no cost.

Lindsay Clark, chief borrower advocate for Savi, expressed a commitment to enhancing the borrower experience, stating that no individual should navigate the complexities of student loan debt alone.

Savi, a technology startup dedicated to revolutionizing the borrower experience, has developed a platform designed to provide trusted support and guidance to borrowers, their associates, and family members.

The webinar, titled "Student Loan Repayment Webinar," is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9, at 12 p.m. Central Time. Interested participants can register for the free webinar via the provided link.

During this interactive session, borrowers will be educated on prevalent student loan debt relief scams to avoid, as well as the utilization of the Wisconsin Student Loan Repayment Tool, developed by Savi. With expertise in federal student loan repayment, Savi's specialists will address participant inquiries and elucidate how their tool streamlines navigation of federal student loan repayment plans, forgiveness programs, and payment reduction strategies. Leveraging Savi's tool may enable borrowers to decrease monthly payments and optimize their repayment strategies.

Further resources for student loan borrowers, including the Wisconsin Student Loan Repayment Tool, are available on DFI's webpage dedicated to student loan debt repayment.
