Top County Soybean, Corn Harvest Results Posted

As expected, the 2016 crop year was one for the record books. The Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service noted that Rock County led the state in production with a record 5.4 million bushels, followed by Dane with 4.9 million, and Dodge at 4.6 million. Grant and Lafayette Counties rounded out the top five with 3.9 million and 3.6 million, respectively.

The three southern districts averaged over 50 bushels per acre, led by the South Central District, where the average soybean yield was 53.7 bushels per acre. Statewide, 19 counties averaged over 50 bushels per acre, led by Lafayette County, where soybeans averaged 56.9 bushels per acre. Grant and Dane followed with yields of 63.4 and 62.4 bushels per acre.

For corn, the South Central District was the largest producing district in Wisconsin with 143 million bushels last year. Dane County was the largest corn producing county with 34 million bushels produced. Rock, Grant, Lafayette, and Dodge rounded out the top five. Lafayette led all counties in Wisconsin with a county-wide average yield of 203 bushels per acre.

And Wisconsin producers in the East Central District chopped 3.76 million tons of corn silage in 2016, representing 23 percent of the state's total. The South Central District produced 2.51 million tons of silage. Manitowoc County was the top corn silage producing county in Wisconsin with 747,000 tons of corn silage produced. Clark, Marathon, Grant and Kewaunee rounded out the top five. Trempealeau County had the highest average yield at 24.0 tons per acre.
