NPP Biodiesel Plant Expected to Break Ground in March

The company that is planning to build Wisconsin's first biodiesel production plant says they are only about a month away from breaking ground. North Prairie Productions of Evansville is nearly finished with its capital fundraising campaign, in which the firm is trying to raise $25 million. They currently have $24.4 million committed for the project.

NPP Vice President Jeff Pieterick says a March groundbreaking date is yet to be announced for the plant, but construction will take place on County M south of Highway 14 on the city's east side.

Last August, NPP unveiled its plan to construct the $42 million facility that will produce up to 45 million gallons of biodegradable, biodiesel fuel per year. The company expects to have the plant operational by the end of the year.

Also last summer, a study was released by the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board about the feasibility of a soybean crushing facility being operated in the state. That report indicated that Wisconsin grows enough soybeans to support an operation that could process over 80,000 bushel per day.

Once completed, the plant is expected to bring in more than $127 million in annual revenue to the area.
