Shaping farm workplaces in the Midwest

Diversified vegetable farms are vital components of our agricultural landscape, but what truly makes them successful extends beyond their produce. At the heart of these operations are the workers and owners who contribute their time and effort. Understanding what constitutes a good workplace on such farms is essential for fostering productivity, sustainability, and employee satisfaction.

To delve into this topic, UW-Extension, Not Our Farm, and FairShare CSA Coalition are collaborating on virtual focus groups. These discussions aim to explore the elements that contribute to a positive work environment and how policy and labor standards can enhance farm workplaces. Drawing from the Real Organic Project's standards, participants will assess their relevance and feasibility within the context of diversified vegetable farming.

Farmers across Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan are invited to join these focus groups. By sharing their insights and experiences, participants will help shape meaningful and achievable labor standards for the industry. In appreciation of their contributions, participants will receive $100 for their time and input.
