Donations for PDPF Celebrity Pie-Eating Contest Now at $5,000
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/07/2013

People who are hoping to see their favorite contestant in the first-ever Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin Pie Eating Contest have already raised thousands of dollars for dairy education and industry causes. Attendees of next week's PDPW annual meeting in Madison have been voting during the past three weeks for their favorite celebrity. Being organized by the Professional Dairy Producers Foundation, the contest will feature notable people within the state's dairy industry who will race to eat a pie on stage the fastest without their hands.

The group is currently raising money by allowing the public to vote online for their favorite nominees through March 11. So far, $4,989 has been raised.

Organizers say you can go to www.dairyfoundation.org/piecontest and click on VOTE. Then, enter your name, the name of the person you want to see in the finals, and the number of votes you want to cast. Each vote is a $1 donation to the Foundation, and you can cast as many votes as you want.

As of now, the top three finalists include Dean Strauss, Majestic Crossing Dairy, at $2,900; Keith Engel, GEA Farm Technologies, with $900; and Charlie Crave, Crave Brothers Farm, at $865 raised.

Other finalists include Ben Brancel, Wisconsin's Secretary of Agriculture; Pam Jahnke, the Fabulous Farm Babe; Bob Meyer, Brownfield Network; and Bob Middendorf, WGLR Radio.

The Professional Dairy Producers Foundation was created in 2002 as a way to raise funds and awards grants for educational programs.
