Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/15/2024

The Wisconsin Cranberry Board (WCB) strategically allocated $561,814 to fund research, education, and communication programs in 2024. These initiatives aim to propel the Wisconsin cranberry industry forward by fostering innovation and public awareness.

The WCB board, comprised of seven state cranberry growers, meticulously reviewed proposals and approved funding for 14 research projects and two educational/communication programs. Research efforts received $271,529, with $59,000 co-funded by the Cranberry Institute and Mariani Packing Company.

This collaborative funding approach leverages the expertise of the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service. Recognizing the importance of grower education and public outreach, the WCB dedicated $290,285 to these endeavors.

These programs empower growers with best practices and cultivate public familiarity with the Wisconsin cranberry industry, a cornerstone of the state's agricultural sector.

Wisconsin holds the prestigious title of the nation's leading cranberry producer, contributing over 60% of the total U.S. cranberry crop. Cranberries reign supreme as Wisconsin's number one fruit crop, bringing substantial economic value to the state.
