NorthStar Co-op Names Top Wisconsin DHI Dairy Herds

NorthStar Cooperative, which serves dairy and beef producers in Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana, has recognized its top customers that participated in the Dairy Herd Improvement program in 2012.

The top testing customer in Wisconsin was Rosy-Lane Holsteins, LLC of Watertown, which earned the High Dollar Value Holstein Herd award for the fourth year in a row. The farm was also recognized for having the Highest Lifetime Cow for Milk Production in the Annual Performance Review. The 866-cow herd topped the High Dollar Value Herd list with a rolling herd average of 30,657 pounds of milk, 1,263 pounds of fat, 980 pounds of protein with a dollar value of $5,073. Additionally, an Arlinda Aerostar daughter topped the Lifetime Cow Report with 379,436 pounds of milk in eight lactations.

The High Dollar Value Herd Average award went to Ayrshire producers Damian and Kiley Ullmer of Seymour with an RHA of 24,694 pounds of milk, 899 pounds of fat, 762 pounds of protein and a dollar value of $3,804.

From Watertown, Twinkle-Hill Brown Swiss, a 66-cow Brown Swiss herd topped the High Dollar Value Brown Swiss Herd Average report with an RHA of 26,244 pounds of milk, 1,104 pounds of fat, 899 pounds of protein and a dollar value of $4,558.

Jenks Jersey Farm in Marathon grabbed the leading spot for High Dollar Value Jersey Herd with an RHA of 18,232 pounds of milk, 947 pounds of fat, 749 pounds of protein and a dollar value of $3,839.

The herd topping the report for Lowest SCC Herd Average was John Beery of Athens. His cows earned this ranking with an SCC average of 41,000, while producing an RHA of 24,439 pounds of milk, 900 pounds of fat, 740 pounds of protein with a dollar value of $3,741.

In addition to DHI herd testing services, NorthStar Cooperative offers artificial insemination services and has an animal disease testing center.
