State Fair Market Swine ID Sites Announced
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/05/2008
Wisconsin State Fair officials have announced the locations and dates for the 2008 swine weigh-ins. All junior and open show market hog exhibitors wishing to exhibit barrows during the State Fair are
required to attend one of the regionally located weigh-in sites.
Organizers say the DNA identification program will be conducted at the weigh-in sites and will cost $10.00 per animal. The current weigh-in system allows officials to maintain consistent weigh-in procedures
thereby strengthening the integrity of the show, the animals that go to market, and the champions that sell in the Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction.
All swine identified for the Wisconsin State Fair must have readable ear notches, provide a DNA hair sample and complete a pre-registration form at one of the locations. There is no limit to the number of
swine pre-identified per exhibitor.
Dates and locations for the weigh-ins are as follows:
** April 19: Stoughton Fairgrounds, Stoughton
** April 19: Grant County Fairgrounds, Lancaster
** April 19: Sheboygan County Fairgrounds, Plymouth
** April 19: Rock County Fairgrounds, Janesville
** April 19: LaCrosse County Fairgrounds, West Salem
** April 19: Dodge County Fairgrounds, Beaver Dam
** April 19: Racine County Fairgrounds, Union Grove
** April 19: Kuehne Livestock Sales Barn, Seymour
** April 19: Polk County Fairgrounds, St. Croix Falls
** April 26: Arlington Agriculture Research Station, Arlington
Junior exhibitors interested in participating in the Wisconsin State Fair must contact their local UW Extension office for entry deadlines and information.
