Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/12/2010

A Wisconsin congresswoman is being recognized for her support of agriculture, farming and the conservation of the nation's lands. The Crop Science Society of America has honored Tammy Baldwin of Madison with its 2010 Sustainability in Crop Science Award. The group says Baldwin has always been a champion for Wisconsin agriculture, and has played an active role in the development of the 2008 Farm Bill.

Baldwin serves on the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and its Subcommittees on Health and its Subcommittee on Energy and Environment.

"It is a great honor to present the Crop Science Society of America's 2010 Sustainability in Crop Science Award to Representative Tammy Baldwin," said CSSA President Joe Lauer of the University of Wisconsin. "She knows the importance of sustainability to ensure the long-term productivity of our agricultural lands."

Lauer presented the award to Baldwin in her office at the U.S. Capitol and was joined by member of the board of directors of the Crop Science Society of America, a scientific society based in Madison. This is the first year of the Sustainability in Crop Science Award and Congresswoman Baldwin is the inaugural recipient.

Founded in 1955, the Crop Science Society of America is an international scientific society comprised of over 6,000 members.
