WI Livestock Breeders Announces Coming Youth Events
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/15/2011
There are lots of opportunities for your son or daughter to get involved with rasing and showing livestock this year. The Wisconsin Livestock Breeders Association's 31st Annual Spring Preview Show will be held on
June 11 at the Jefferson Fair Park in Jefferson. Organizers say entries must be postmarked by May 1 for exhibitors who are between the ages of 8-19 by January 1, 2011 to participate. Students with beef,
sheep and swine projects are eligible to exhibit.
Junior livestock exhibitors and their families interested in gaining knowledge of the livestock industry, expanding project management skills, and learning new fitting and showing techniques may want to
consider adding the Wisconsin Junior Livestock Camp to their calendars. This year's camp is scheduled for June 17-19 at Wisconsin State Fair Park. Registration deadline for that program is May 15.
WLBA's newest event is the 'Wisconsin Summer Spectacular,' slated for August 19-20 at the Marathon County Fairgrounds in Wausau. Following the format of the popular Spring Preview Show, the
Summer Spectacular will offer youth one last chance before the start of school to exhibit their livestock projects and participate in an educational quiz bowl and judging contest. Entries for this show must be
postmarked by July 31.
And the 2011 Master Stockman Award applications will be accepted at both the Spring Preview and Summer Spectacular Shows. Three $750.00 Master Stockman awards within the beef, sheep and swine
species will be chosen as well as three $500.00 runner-ups.
Entry information and applications for all events, as well as 2011 Master Stockman Award applications can be obtained by calling the WLBA office at 608-868-2505.
