Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/20/2017

Six women have been selected to compete for the title of Wisconsin's 70th Alice in Dairyland. During a candidate briefing forum in Brown County on Friday, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture informed the finalists about what the 'Alice' position entails and how to prepare for the finals event, which will be held in the county May 11-13.

The 2017 Alice in Dairyland candidates include Abrielle Backhaus, Kewaskum; Jenna Crayton, Oak Creek; Alexis Dunnum, Westby; Crystal Siemers-Peterman, Cleveland; Kaitlyn Riley, Gays Mills; and Kelly Wilfert, Two Rivers.

"The Alice in Dairyland program has a strong history of promoting Wisconsin's diverse agriculture industry, which now has a more than $88 billion impact on Wisconsin's economy," said Current Alice Ann O'Leary. "One of these finalists will carry on the tradition of traveling the state to teach audiences of urban and rural backgrounds about the importance of Wisconsin agriculture."

The public is welcome to attend various public events during the Finals in Brown County, including the Finale Banquet & Program on May 13 at the Atrium in Lambeau Field. That selection finale program will also be Webcast live on Wisconsin Ag Connection, which is being sponsored by Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, Landmark Services Co-op and Foremost Farms USA.

Alice in Dairyland is a full-time public relations professional employed by the DATCP Division of Agricultural Development for a one-year term. Each year, Alice travels more than 40,000 miles throughout the state and nation, promoting Wisconsin products to audiences of all ages and types. She educates the media, youth and civic groups about the many facets of the state's agricultural industry.

More than 20 women applied to become this year's Wisconsin agricultural ambassador.
