Wisconsin Cheese Makers Announce Scholarship Winners
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/20/2019

Five students will be earning scholarship money for college during the Wisconsin Cheese Industry Conference in Madison next month. The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association announced the winners of its 2019 scholarship program, in which each of the successful applicants will be getting $3,000 awards.

This year's scholarship recipients Chris Eckerman, a product development specialist at Agropur in Appleton, pursuing a Master of Business Administration from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire; Emily Franke, a dairy science student at University of Wisconsin-Madison; Morgyn Haumschild, a high school senior, planning to attend the UW-Rivers Falls to study dairy science; Paul VanderKelen, a six-year employee of HART Design and Manufacturing, Inc. in Green Bay, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering; and JunHyuk Yoon, an intern at Excel Engineering in Milwaukee, attending the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

"WCMA is honored to invest a portion of the proceedings from our Championship Cheese Auctions to offer five scholarships to students destined to be among the next generation of dairy leaders," said WCMA Director John Umhoefer. "Through our Association, member companies have generously supported institutions of higher learning and students with total gifts worth more than $1 million."

The WCMA student scholarship program is supported by the Championship Cheese Auction. That's where the gold medal cheeses from WCMA's Championship Cheese Contests are sold to provide income for a permanent, reserved scholarship fund.

This year's sale takes place April 17.
