Oscar Mayer Delays Closing Date for Madison Operations
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/27/2017

The Oscar Mayer plant in Madison will close its doors a little later than it first anticipated. According to union officials, the facility may stay open through the end of April; and its spice department could continue to operate until early May.

The original closing date was slated for the end of March. The extension means that about 300 employees will continue to punch-in to work.

United Food & Commercial Workers Union President Doug Leikness told the Wisconsin State Journal that the delays likely resulted from complications with setting up operations at the other plants.

Last month, Oscar Mayer's parent company, Kraft Foods, announced that a firm with experience in disposing of assets of shuttered factories has interest in purchasing the plant.

The facility sits on 72-acres on Madison's east side.
