February Milk Prices Hits Three-Year Low

Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $17.70 per hundredweight for their milk in February. According to the latest USDA Agricultural Prices report, that was down 70 cents from January and is the lowest monthly milk price since June 2012.

The U.S. milk price for February was $16.80 per cwt, 90 cents lower than Wisconsin's price and 80 cents lower than the January U.S. price. All of the 23 major milk producing states had a decrease in price from January to February, with California having the lowest price in the country at $14.72 per cwt.

Meanwhile, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.56 per pound on Monday, and barrels were also $1.56 per pound. The CME butter price was $1.75 per pound.

For the week ending March 21, the U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.57 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.56 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $1.70 per pound.
