Weather Stats: March Temps Were Normal This Year
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/30/2017
Wisconsin crop reporters will soon be sending in their observations from the fields to kick off the 2017 growing season. But the USDA has already issued some stats on weather conditions for the month of March.
The National Ag Statistics Service says temperatures at the five major weather stations in Wisconsin this month ranged from 1.5 degrees below average to 1.3 degrees above normal. Average highs ranged from 37.7 degrees in Eau Claire to 42.5 degrees in La
Crosse. The same areas saw lows between 19.9 to 25.5 degrees throughout March.
In the rain gauges, precipitation ranged from 1.07 inches in Eau Claire to 2.50 inches around Milwaukee. That city received the most snowfall of the major cities with 13.6 inches.
The agency said temperatures and precipitation were both near normal statewide over the past month. Reporters across the state expressed concern about low sugar content from maple trees this season. Some oat and alfalfa planting reports were received from
the southern part of the state.
