CNH Tractor Plant Announces Layoffs
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/12/2016
For the third time in three years, the CNH Industrial plant in Mount Pleasant will be cutting a large number of workers. Union officials said 105 employees will be laid off this month. The facility is used to make Case IH Magnum and New Holland tractors.
Company Spokeswoman Kathleen Prause says the staff reductions are a result of market conditions in the agricultural sector.
The facility currently employs around 520 production workers, who are members of the United Auto Workers Local 180.
In 2011, the plant expanded its workforce by adding 150 new employees, but then cut about 100 of those jobs in February 2012 and another 150 in late 2014.
CNH blames the slowdown in sales on lower commodity prices, especially in corn and soybeans.
