Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium Names Executive Director
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/31/2023

The Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium (WLIC) announced Julie Sweney as the new executive director of the organization. In her role, Sweney will work in stride with the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection in maintaining updated and accurate agricultural premises throughout the state of Wisconsin in addition to raising awareness about the importance of animal disease traceability.

“Animal disease traceability has become an integral piece in protecting the livestock industry, and therefore the livelihoods of so many farmers. Our work focuses on Wisconsin premises and establishing a solid foundation of traceability here in the state is vital to ensuring agriculture continues to thrive, in Wisconsin and across the U.S.,” says Sweney. “I look forward to sharing the importance of our work here at WLIC and the value of traceability while doing our part in protecting the livestock industry.”

Sweney holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she majored in Life Sciences Communication and Agricultural and Applied Economics. Prior to joining the team at WLIC, she most recently served as the Director of Communications and Marketing at FarmFirst Dairy Cooperative, and previously held a marketing role at the marketing agency, C.O.nxt. Her dedication and passion for agriculture first began while growing up on her family’s dairy farm in Southeastern Wisconsin.

“We are excited to have Julie take on this role. With her past involvement with WLIC and her understanding of the importance of traceability, we believe she can elevate the message of WLIC across the entire livestock industry and its stakeholders,” says Kevin Krentz, WLIC Chairperson. “Traceability might not be discussed every day, but ensuring that a robust system is in place to protect and maintain the commerce of livestock across state lines and beyond our country is essential to our industry’s well-being. We look forward to what Julie can accomplish for WLIC.”
