Over $100K Raised for Family of Dad, Son Killed in Silo Accident
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/06/2018

Friends and neighbors of a 51-year-old man and his 14-year-old son who were killed last week while working in a silo have established a GoFundMe page to help their family cover funeral expenses and other costs. On March 24, Daniel Briel was chipping frozen silage off the sides of the structure when the feed collapsed on top of him and his son, David. Another 15-year-old son, Caleb, was able to escape without injury.

The accident happened on the Briel's family farm, just south of Barron.

As of Friday, more than 1,400 donors collectively gave over $102,000 toward the fundraising effort. A private donor has also stepped forward to cover any processing fees associated with the fund.

Meanwhile, the family's herd of cows will be sold at auction on April 10 at Equity Livestock's Horst Stables facility in Thorp. That sale will begin at 11:00 and all buyers in attendance will get a free rootbeer float, which was the Briel family's favorite refreshment after doing chores on the farm.
