Dairy Recovery Effort Aims to Feed Wisconsinites, Benefit Farmers
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/16/2020

The Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Department of Agriculture are teaming up with Hunger Task Force to provide relief to the growing numbers of underfed and unemployed citizens by connecting milk to emergency food organizations throughout the state. With support from individual donors, the task force will commit up to $1 million to the newly created Wisconsin Dairy Recovery Program.

As part of the effort, dairy farmers will be paid to supply milk to Kemps, which will process thousands of gallons of milk at its Cedarburg dairy plant. Hunger Task Force will then distribute the milk to food banks and pantries through the Hunger Relief Federation of Wisconsin, a statewide association that supports food distribution in local communities.

Funds committed to the recovery program will be used to purchase, process and distribute milk and dairy products.

With more than 75 percent of the nation's restaurants closed as a result of the pandemic, family dairy farms and processors statewide have been hit financially.

To support the ongoing recovery of Wisconsin's dairy industry, Hunger Task Force encourages people to make an online donation at www.HungerTaskForce.org/dairy
