Nominees Sought for State Organic Advisory Council
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/11/2013
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture is now accepting nominations for four seats on its Organic Advisory Council. The panel was initially convened six years ago to advise the agency on the needs of the organic sector.
The goal of the Council is to guide the development of organic education, research and marketing opportunities for Wisconsin farms and businesses, and provide input on state and federal policy that affects organic agriculture.
"The Organic Advisory Council is a dynamic, enthusiastic group known for its lively discussions," said Laura Paine, a grazing and organic agriculture specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture. "I encourage those who want to join the discussion about the future of Wisconsin's organic industry to apply
to serve on the Organic Advisory Council."
Member terms are on a three-year rotating basis. The current open seats include: an organic farmer, a business person that produces and sells organic products, a non-profit educational organization representative, and an at-large member.
Individuals are encouraged to nominate themselves or another qualified candidate. To nominate a member for the Council, a nomination form and two letters of recommendation must be completed. Selected individuals need to be able to meet quarterly and participate in subcommittees and other activities.
Wisconsin ranks second in the nation in the number of organic farms and is first in the nation in the number of organic dairy farms.
