UW-Madison AWA Awards Scholarships to Members

The Association of Women in Agriculture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has awarded 18 scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year. The funds were made possible through the generous support of AWA alumni and friends.

Lindsey Sarbacker received the Dr. Larry Satter Memorial Scholarship. She is a dairy science and life sciences communication double major with an agricultural business management certificate from Stoughton.

The Dr. David Dickson Scholarship was presented to Sabrina Servais of LaCrosse, who is studying dairy science and life sciences communication.

Mena Schmitt, a dairy science student with a certificate in agricultural business management from Sun Prairie, was awarded the Delma Woodburn Memorial Scholarship.

The Cynthia Benevenga Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Alexis Luedtke from Beaver Dam, who is studying biochemistry with a global health certificate.

AWA House Resident Scholarships were awarded to Kalista Hodorff, Eden, studying dairy science; Taylor Schaefer, Franksville, studying animal science and life sciences communication; Alexis Schultz, Lake Mills, studying agronomy with certificates in leadership and global health; Alexis Kwak, Prairie Farm, studying animal science; Kiley Henn, Deerfield, studying dairy science; and Jaden Hennemen, Whitewater, studying agribusiness management and psychology with a certificate in criminal justice.

Four AWA Active Member scholarships were awarded to Ashley Nelson, Forest Lake, Minn., studying biochemistry and plant pathology; Amanda Giminez, Berlin, studying animal science; Jenna Broege, Janesville, studying dairy science and life sciences communication; and Kiley Eck, Lake Mills, studying communication arts and political science with a certificate in gender and women's studies.

Receiving $1,000 scholarships supported by Demeter were Megan Lehr, Monticello, studying agricultural business management; Emily Franke, Oakfield, studying dairy science with a certificate in agricultural business management; and Catherin Vickerman, Milton, a genetics and genomics and life sciences communication student with a certificate in global health.

Meanwhile, the Association of Women in Agriculture Benefit Corporation award scholarships to help the student members achieve their goals and support their education at the University of Wisconsin. They included the Nicole Bangart Memorial Scholarship, awarded to Kelsey Maurer, Newton, studying dairy science with a certificate in business management; and Emily Franke of Oakfield, who earned the Kelsey Jo Olson Memorial Scholarship.

The Association of Women in Agriculture, headquartered on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, is a professional, service and social organization that promotes agriculture and the development of women who serve the agricultural industry.
