Wisconsin's Crop Progress Literally Frozen in Place
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/17/2018

The winter weather conditions of the past week meant farmers throughout the Badger State were not able to make any more progress in the fields. According to the Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service, farmers were able to do a small amount of manure and fertilizer applications before wintery conditions halted progress.

Monday's weekly crop summary noted that topsoil moisture supplies were rated one percent very short, six percent short, 76 percent adequate and 17 percent surplus. Reporters also noted that overwintered crops remained largely dormant.

As of Sunday, spring tillage was still at just two percent complete statewide, which is four percentage points behind the five-year average. Oats remained at two percent complete--nine percentage points behind last year and six points behind average.

Winter wheat was 50 percent in good to excellent condition statewide, up two percentage points from last week.
