Farm Technology Days Heads Back to Marathon County in 2011
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/11/2008

After holding an extremely successful show 12 years ago, Marathon County is again going to be hosting Wisconsin Farm Technology Days in 2011. On Wednesday, the WFTD Board of Directors accepted the county's application after local supervisors approved spending $45,000 to go towards organizing the event.

General Manager Glen Thompson told Wisconsin Ag Connection that three counties came forward with interest in applying for the 2011 spot, but Marathon County was the only official application sent in.

"We have met with a group of citizens up in the county and they are very excited to be hosting the show again," Thompson said. "The previous two shows in Marathon County were very successful and we don't see any reason why this time would be any different."

The county held Farm Progress Days in 1974 in Stratford and in 1996 near Marathon City. The next host farm will be sought after committees get organized early next year.

Meanwhile, things are moving right along in Brown County, which is hosting this year's event. The 55th annual farm show will be held on July 15-17 at the Bud and Ione Gerritts farm in DePere.

Dodge County will host the show in 2009 at Crave Brothers Farms LLC, who include Charles, George, Tom and Mark Crave and their families. And in 2010, FTD will be held in Pierce County at the Roger and Beverly Peterson Farm near River Falls.

Also at the meeting, the Farm Technology Days Committee awarded its first annual $2,000 scholarship to Thomas Butts from Browntown. The new program gives one student from the immediate-past host county an opportunity to apply for the scholarship. Butts is from Green County, which held the show last fall.

Farm Technology Days is run by a group comprised of representatives of state and federal agencies involved in agriculture and natural resources, the University of Wisconsin, and the agribusiness-industry and farming sectors.
