Juda FFA Student Wins GROWMARK Essay Contest
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/16/2014

Aurora Daniels of Juda has been named the Wisconsin winner of the 2014 GROWMARK essay contest for FFA members. The theme of this year's competition was 'Promoting Sustainability and Conservation of Natural Resources.'

Daniels is a student at Juda High School and a member of the Juda FFA chapter. Her FFA advisor is Ralph Johnson. She will receive a $500 award from GROWMARK at the Wisconsin FFA State Convention in Madison this June. Her chapter will also receive a $300 award in honor of her accomplishment to help future students.

"Protecting soil and water quality increases crop productivity and community wellness. The Wisconsin Land and Water Conservation Association states, 'Every citizen benefits from the protection of our natural resources.' Sustainability and conservation practices maintain healthy soils and strong farms," Daniels wrote in her essay.

Meanwhile, four state runners-up will each receive a $125 scholarship. They include Whitley Harelstad, New Auburn FFA; Bailey Hill, Viroqua FFA; Ryan Knuth, Reedsburg FFA; and Matthew Schadt, Watertown FFA.

This is the 21st year for the program, sponsored by the GROWMARK System and FS member cooperatives, in conjunction with state FFA leaders, to help young people develop their writing skills, learn about current issues in agriculture, and understand the unique role of cooperatives.
