Three Western WI Ag Co-ops Announce Merger Agreement
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/27/2017

Another merger between three local agricultural cooperatives will be taking place this fall. About two-thirds of the members of Cedar Country Cooperative in Elk Mound; Lakeland Cooperative of Ridgeland; and United Ag Cooperative in Almena, voted in favor of consolidating their operations into one business, effective October 1.

Each of the entities serve local farmers in western Wisconsin with agronomy, grain, refined fuels, propane and feed divisions. Convenience stores, tire and repair shops and a farm equipment dealership will also be part of the newly formed cooperative.

"Each organization brings unique strengths to market," the groups said in a joint press release. "Improved asset utilization of trucks, equipment and buildings will be a key objective. Operational efficiencies will be gained because of significant geographical overlap. A larger company will also offer improved employment opportunities for employees in an ever increasing and competitive workplace."

Members will be eligible to have their equity paid out at age 68 wherever it was earned. Once the companies are officially blended, they are expected to generate over $180 million in annual sales and will cover an area of 200 miles from Ashland to south of Eau Claire and Menomonie. Customers in parts of Minnesota and upper Michigan will also be served.

Meanwhile, four directors from each company will be selected to sit on the board of directors. That group will then determine the location of the main office and select a general manager.

The name of the new company has yet to be determined.
