Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/13/2011

Wisconsin's 45th Fairest of the Fair is Alexis Nickelotti from Genoa. The Vernon County native was crowned Wednesday night in Wisconsin Dells after competing against 37 other contestants for this year's title. As Fairest of the Fair, she becomes the spokesperson for the Wisconsin Association of Fairs, where she will travel to many of the state's county, district and state fairs this summer. The winner also serves as the official hostess of the Wisconsin State Fair each year.

A junior at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Nickelotti is majoring in business, marketing and biology. Alexis says she's looking forward to sharing her experiences and educating fairgoers while traveling to the various fairs during the coming year.

"I am so excited to travel Wisconsin and promote fairs," Nickelotti says.

Through 4-H and FFA, Nickelotti became involved with the Vernon County Fair. As a 10-year member of 4-H Club, she has been involved exhibiting swine. Nickelotti also enjoys ceramics, a hobby she learned through 4-H. Her career goal is to be involved within the agriculture industry

"Agriculture has always been a part of my life," says Nickelotti, who grew up on her family's 74-cow dairy farm in Rural Vernon County.

Nickelotti replaces outgoing Fairest of Fairs Natalie Salkowski.

Meanwhile, Amy Manske of Waupaca County was named first runner up, with Mary Pat Speerstra from Trempealeau County being second runner-up. Rusk County's Kasey Kowaleski was selected as Miss Congeniality. Other finalists include Kaylyn Krebs, Washington County; Kristin Kohlmann, Fond Du Lac County; and Kristin Kohlmann, Fond du Lac.

The judges for this year's competition were John Behr, Foremost Farms USA, Harry Nienaber, Central WI State Fair; and Karen Stiles, WTMJ-TV.
