WATA's Annual Ag Tourism Day is May 14
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 05/03/2010

The Wisconsin Agricultural Tourism Association will hold its annual Agri-Tourism Day at Govin's Meats & Berries in Menomonie. The event takes place May 14, where the morning sessions will be held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Berry Grower Association Berry Field Day.

Govin's Meats & Berries sells farm-raised beef, chicken and lamb. In June, they are open for prepicked and U-pick strawberries. More recently, they have gotten into agri-tourism with an open lambing barn in the spring, and pumpkins and a corn maze in the fall. Govin's is located east of Menomonie just off I-94. The morning program will also include Wende Brunner and Patti Pollock of the Wisconsin Dept of Transportation who will talk about the rules concerning placing business signs along roads and highways. Dr. Kent Gustafson, a tourism professor from the University of Minnesota, will also lead a discussion entitled, 'Is Your Agri-Tourism Enterprise a Business or a Hobby?'

After lunch, the group will drive to The Creamery Restaurant and Inn in Downsville, which features a gourmet restaurant that serves locally-sourced seasonal foods, a bakery, and a ten room inn located in rural Dunn County. The next stop will be at Bullfrog Eat My Fish Farm to learn about aquaculture and tourism. At Bullfrog Fish Farm, visitors buy fish products, can enjoy shore lunch on Sunday afternoons, or can soak a line in their trout pond to enjoy the fishing experience. After the tour, those wishing are invited to return to The Creamery Restaurant for a dutch-treat group dinner.
