Ag Students, Industry Highlighted at Northcentral Tech
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 05/01/2014

Wisconsin Agriculture Secretary Ben Brancel and Wisconsin Technical College System President Morna Foy joined area high school students at Northcentral Technical College on Wednesday to highlight dual credit opportunities in the agriculture sector. The dual credit program allows students to simultaneously earn high school and college credits with a single course or sequence of courses.

Over the past five years, participation in dual credit has doubled, with more than 21,000 high school students across the state taking advantage of opportunities through partnerships developed with their local technical colleges.

"Today's event at our Agriculture Center of Excellence highlights the uniqueness of our dual credit opportunities for high school students," said NTC President Dr. Lori Weyers. "We're proud to work with our K-12 partners to create seamless pathways from high school to NTC to a bachelor degree and beyond."

Weyers invited students from six area high schools to talk about their experiences earning transcripted college credit at NTC, and to discuss their future education and career plans. The students have each received college credit in courses related to dairy herd management, veterinary science and other ag-related topics.

All 16 of Wisconsin's technical colleges offer dual credit opportunities for high school students in a variety of sectors, including manufacturing, business, health care and others.
