Seminar to Focus on Updates to Dairy Forage & Feeding
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/13/2012

The University of Wisconsin-Extension and the Sheboygan County Forage Council will discuss Forage Use in Wisconsin's Leading Dairy Herds, Forage Economics and Dairy Policy Outlook at the Forage Council's annual meeting. The event takes place January 20 at Chissy's Restaurant in Waldo at 10:00 a.m.

Utilizing high quality locally grown forage is Wisconsin's economic advantage in the dairy industry. Attendees will learn how Wisconsin's leading dairy herds have been feeding forage at high levels without sacrificing milk yield.

Dr. Randy Shaver of the UW-Madison Dairy Science Department will share survey results, including facts on how feed costs can typically make-up 40-60 percent of the total cost of producing milk. Other findings will be shared by UW-Madison Ag Economist Dr. Bruce Jones.

The session will also look at the economics of feeding corn silage or haylage in dairy rations.

The cost of the program is $12.00. For more information or to register for the forum, call the UW-Extension office at 9200-459-5904.
